Boeing exceeded Wall Street expectations despite the 737 Max crisis that grounded all new airliners. Furthermore, they formed an agreement with an automotive seating leader.
John Slattery has been appointed president of the commercial aviation and services joint venture between Boeing and Embraer. Upon closing of this deal, he will report directly to Dennis Muilenburg as CEO.

Adient Aerospace remains upbeat after signing Hawaiian Airlines as their launch customer for their modular Ascent wide body lie flat business class suites at this year’s Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg.
Additionally, this week the company announced that its Coast Composites LLC unit has been awarded a contract to produce six wingskin molds for the Airbus A350 XWB. Together with previous contracts covering nacelles and segments of fuselage/center wingbox assembly work and center wingbox tooling production by Odyssey Industries and Global Tooling Systems, these projects will cover over 70% of its outer surface area. Furthermore, Coast Composites, along with sister companies Odyssey Industries and Global Tooling Systems is producing 100% of fuselage stringers/frame tooling production by Coast Composites LLC along with sister companies Odyssey Industries and Global Tooling Systems.

The Ascent of the Boeing 737 Max
Airbus shocked the aviation industry in 2010 by unveiling an upgraded version of their popular A320 family, called A320neo (for “new engine option”). These updated engines used 6 percent less fuel than previous models; Boeing saw this development as an existential threat.
Boeing executives decided in just weeks that the company would create the 737 Max to compete against A320neo’s increased fuel usage, offering airlines additional capacity with reliability comparable to earlier generations of their plane.
Boeing faced an exceptionally tight timeline to design, test, and deliver its new plane – it required less than six years from concept to delivery! That timeframe was nearly one year less than it took them to develop the 777 and 18 months less than it took them to produce 787s! Missing its deadline would leave them vulnerable in their quest for greater market share in this $35 billion global narrow-body jet market.
Boeing account reps traveled frantically around the globe signing airline customers up for its 737 Max plane, including several airlines such as Lion Air, Ethiopian Airlines and Malindo Air – who eventually became its inaugural commercial operator of this new plane.
Success of the 737 Max’s introduction into service depended on many variables. It was vitally important that the FAA carefully scrutinised it as it would serve as Boeing’s main sales vehicle and any issues could have dire repercussions for all involved and put thousands of lives in jeopardy.
The Ascent of the Boeing 777
Boeing’s 707 “Jumbo Jet,” introduced after World War II, revolutionized long-distance air travel after World War II and allowed airlines to offer much cheaper tickets to consumers. Requiring less fuel and offering faster, smoother rides than propeller-driven planes, its design allowed for faster flight speeds with wider and more comfortable cabins as well as fly-by-wire flight controls that let pilots direct the aircraft via computer interfaces.
The Boeing 777 has proven itself as the premier wide-body airliner ever created, surpassing cumulative sales records set by its predecessor by 2014. Both passenger and freighter variants of this aircraft can be found traveling long routes around the globe including transpacific and transatlantic flights.
Early on, Boeing was known for producing military-related aero products. After its founder William E. Boeing sold his timber business, however, more emphasis was put on civil aviation and aircraft production by Boeing.
As its business expanded, Boeing introduced advanced jetliners such as the 747. These twinjets revolutionized commercial air travel while opening up possibilities for wide-body jetliners like 777s.
Boeing required new manufacturing and assembly methods in order to build the 777. As it was the first commercial airliner designed entirely on computers, software allowed engineers to rapidly model and test aircraft parts before building physical mock-ups of them – drastically cutting production times down significantly.
Boeing’s 777 family features four aircraft, each offering different passenger capacity and cargo space options. Boeing’s 777F freighter aircraft builds upon its predecessor but features raked wings, advanced flight deck controls, GE90-115B engines (General Electric’s), as well as other enhancements designed to maximize cargo capabilities – more than 200 have already been sold!
The Ascent of the Boeing 787
Boeing is one of the world’s premier aerospace companies, producing commercial jetliners, military aircraft and satellites for both civil aviation and defense applications as well as providing systems and services to these sectors. Employing approximately 176,000 worldwide, they account for 25% of total aerospace employment worldwide.
Boeing can trace its roots back to 1916 when American timber merchant William E. Boeing established Aero Products Company. Over time, Aero Products produced pursuit planes, observation craft, torpedo planes and patrol bombers for the Navy in its 1920s heyday; later after World War II it shifted focus toward commercial aircraft production; with Boeing taking a risk with their 707 airliner offering shorter flight times and more comfortable rides; ultimately becoming one of the market leaders in commercial airliners.
Throughout the 1970s, Boeing ventured into marine craft (hydrofoils), transit systems, energy production and agriculture; later shifting towards aerospace. By 1980, however, Boeing had developed both twin-engine 767 aircraft as well as single-engine 757 models; pilots trained on either can fly either of the models simultaneously to reduce training costs for airlines.
Boeing’s aerospace division remains an integral part of their business, serving as the primary contractor for the International Space Station as well as designing, building and testing crewed spacecraft to carry astronauts to it. Their Space and Communications Sector also designs, builds and tests rockets and satellites.
Boeing continues to adapt as the aerospace industry changes. Hawaiian Airlines recently selected a unique business class suite called Adient Ascent for their Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners; this luxurious room offers a 1-2-1 outward-facing herringbone layout designed specifically to satisfy leisure travellers who appreciate both shared and individual experiences.
