Google’s Evolution From a Research Project to Tech Powerhouse

Google’s ascent from research project to tech titan demonstrates the cycle of innovation; what once seemed extraordinary can become commonplace over time.

Graduate students Brin and Page were working on a search engine called Backrub, realizing the web contained an incredible number of links. To organize it all more efficiently they devised an algorithmic system.

The Early Years

Eric Schmidt was chosen as their chosen leader from Sun Microsystems and Novell Inc; thus making him an ideal fit with Page and Brin’s technocratic tendencies.

Gmail was launched by Google in 2004 as an email service that offered more storage capacity and features than popular competing products of the time, as well as Ajax web development technology that allowed quicker response to user requests.
